The teaching and learning process in URP-SP is conducted by using Student Centered Learning (SCL), Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Teaching Centered Learning (TCL) approaches. However, it has been seriously attempting to promote active participation of the students in the learning process by putting more emphasis on the active learning methods, which are PBL and SCL. As the result, these two approaches constitute 79% of the overall course credits. The PBL approach has been adopted since 2003, when the study program was first opened. Considering that planning is a matter of problem solving with appropriate prescription(s), the PBL has been able to embed this value into students’ work in Studio(s). In studio analysis and planning either at neighbourhood, urban, or regional scale, lecturers act as partners in discussion and only lead the planning process when necessary (eg. when students face difficulties due to their inexperiences).
