Students are considered to pass or fail according to their grades. In Indonesia, the grading system uses both numerical and alphabetical grades. Numerical is used for GPA (Grade Point Average) while alphabetical is used for modules’ grade. In BURP, both are transferable to each other as mandated by the university. Table 1 shows the conversion for both grading systems.
Table 1 Conversion From Alphabetical grade to 0-4 Scale Numerical Grade to 100 scale
Alphabetical Grade | Numerical 0-4 Grade | Numerical 0-100 Grade |
A | 4.00 | Score ≥ 85 |
A- | 3.75 | 80 ≤ score < 85 |
A/B | 3.50 | 75 ≤ score < 80 |
B+ | 3.25 | 70 ≤ score < 75 |
B | 3.00 | 65 ≤ score < 70 |
B- | 2.75 | 60 ≤ score < 65 |
B/C | 2.50 | 55 ≤ score < 60 |
C+ | 2.25 | 50 ≤ score < 55 |
C | 2.00 | 45 ≤ score < 50 |
C- | 1.75 | 41,25 ≤ score < 45 |
C/D | 1.5 | 37,5 ≤ score < 41,25 |
D+ | 1.25 | 33,25 ≤ score <37,5 |
D | 1 | 30 ≤ score < 33,25 |
E | 0 | score ≤ 30 |
External Assessment
BURP allow external examiners to test students on the following occasions:
1) Planning Studio Critique (part of the Planning Studio final exam)
Both BURP and MURP invite planning practitioners from local government agencies to be planning studio examiners. Studio report, executive summary, and assessment rubric are distributed to external examiners 2-3 weeks before the exam day.
2) The Final Project
Both BURP and MURP assigns 2 examiners (excluding supervisors) for assessing students during the oral defense. One of the examiners can be filled by external examiners either lecturers from other departments/faculties or practitioners from private or government institutions.
For special cases in MURP, where the assignments are completed outside the institution such as the Joint Degree students, the degree Program allows the credits to be transferred. The assessment standards are made to adjust the partner universities’. Adjustments are carried out to respect the quality assurance of both parties. The evaluation from partner universities will be used as a reference for the Program’s internal quality improvement.
