In general, all high school graduates with a diploma received within the last 2 years are eligible for admission to BURP through either the national selection process or the independent selection process conducted by the university. Both selection processes involve SAT-type tests, in which applicants with high scores will be admitted.
For the national selection, the admission process is administered by an Executive Committee under the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education for all state universities. There are two types of national selection process: (1) based on students’ performance in their high schools, demonstrated by their report grades and other academic achievements; and (2) by taking a nationwide exam called SNBT. Meanwhile, the independent selection process conducted by the university also has two pathways of admission: (1) by taking a computer-based test, and (2) through achievement-based assessment in which students can be awarded admission if they have outstanding talent or fall under one of the following criteria – economically disadvantaged, high-achieving individual in sports and arts, or from a remote area.
