BURP allows students to experience academic and professional advancement through various schemes, such as scholarship or self-funded student exchange, short courses, summer school, and attending international conferences abroad. Student mobility is supervised and coordinated by the Office of International Affairs at the university and faculty level. In the 2021 curriculum, students have more flexibility through the MBKM program, thematic studio, and the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). Credits obtained from these activities can be transferred to BURP, following the university’s policy.

Aside from student out-mobility, BURP also provides students with the opportunity to gain international experiences through the International Joint Studio and Planning Excursion. Students of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) must participate in the International Exposure program, in which credits received from partner universities can be converted to the UGM curriculum based on the working hours required to complete these international courses. The International Joint Studio is conducted jointly with MURP and in collaboration with partner universities,  such as Curtin University, Australia (2014) and the University of Queensland, Australia (2015-2024). Meanwhile, the Planning Excursion is an elective course which allows students to enhance their understanding of comprehensive urban and regional planning by visiting and exploring other cities, such as Singapore (2023) and Bangkok (2024).
